Meanwhile, it is an important basic raw material for the manufacture of pharmaceutical TMP and the dye cresidine sulfonic acid. It is applied in organic synthesis. It is approved for use as a food flavoring agent under GB 2760-1996. p-Cresol serves as an intermediate for the fungicide tolclofos-methyl and the insecticides fenvalerate and ethofenprox. It is also an intermediate for the antioxidant additive 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde.
